Windows 8 has its own built-in antivirus program called Windows Defender,
which is designed to protect your computer from spyware and malware in,
real-time. It scans your hard drive for viruses; however, by default it
doesn’t scans removable and external drives.
If you’re using the built-in Windows Defender for protecting your Windows 8 PC, you might want to make Windows Defender to scan removable and external drives also. Here is how it is.
From the Start Screen start typing Windows Defender. You’ll see Windows Defender icon (like a gray stonewall) displayed on the screen. Click on it to open Windows Defender.
Click on the Settings tab and then click on “Advanced” option.
Now, check the box that says “Scan Removable Drives”. Click Save Changes button.
Now, whenever you run a full scan, removable and external drives will also be scanned, if plugged in.
