How To Install Cygwin for Windows 7

Cygwin is collection of tools which provide a Linux look and feel environment for Windows. It is very useful for them who wants Linux environment on windows command prompt. Cygwin also provides native integration of Windows-based applications, data, and other system resources with applications, software tools, and data of the Unix-like environment. One thing I want tell you about cygwin is that it is the best project to learn basic Linux/Unix commands for beginners. So lets watch the procedure of installation in following steps.

STEP: 1

>> First of all download the cygwin project from www.cygwin.com
STEP: 2

>> Then click on setup and follow the instruction given in that
STEP: 3

While installation of setup it will ask for choosing download mirror so select any one of them and proceed 

STEP: 4

It will take few minutes to download the files,
>> After downloading all files just go to C drive (or the drive where your OS is installed) and there you will find a new folder named Cygwin
STEP: 5

Now go to My computer Properties >> Advanced System setting and follow the below figures steps

In this step you have to create a variable path, So click on new option and fill the variable name as ” Path ” and variable value as ” C:/cygwin/bin/ ” ( It is according to your installation )

After Creating variable path it will look like below snap

Now click on apply option and open the command prompt of windows and type ” ls ” (linux command for list directory)
